Dear Skywagon Flyers,
Mark your calendars now for another Texas flyin this coming fall. Wally and Rhonda Johnson are sponsoring this gathering 18-20 September at their home airfield (33TE), which is located on the Texas side of Lake Texoma.
Upon arrival Friday, we will be treated to a fish fry lunch from 11:00 to 1:30, Catfish fillets straight from Lake Texoma! Transportation to our hotel will begin around 3PM.
Lodging will be at ‘Tanglewood Resort on Lake Texoma’. This is a beautiful facility with all the amenities, including the ‘Tower Whisky Bar’ where you get an amazing view of the resort and the lake from the eighth story of the tower. To make your hotel reservations call them at 609-786-2968 or 609-438-2929 and mention "Skywagons flyin" to get our great rate, which $144 dollars per night plus tax. The lake view rate is $174 per night plus tax.
Dinner Friday evening will be at the resorts’s Lakeside Restaurant. We will have a hospitality room adjacent to our hotel that will be available each day.
For our ladies, Saturday will be a day of shopping on the “longest main street in Texas”. Following lunch in Denison, Rhonda has coordinated a session on “candle making”!
Saturday for the guys will start with a flyout to a beautiful grass strip airport, Cedar Mills (3T0) for a great breakfast. After breakfast we will fly to another grass strip, Flying Oaks (2TE2). Our host there, Charles Cook, has quite an extensive collection of antique aircraft to show us. Following this entertaining stop, we will fly to Oklahoma to yet another grass strip for a really fine dining experience at Smoking Joes BBQ. As if that were not enough, we will be flying from there to Wayne Strader’s grass strip (OK62] for dessert. Here you will be served homemade ice cream, prepared by a gentleman using a John Deere powered ice cream maker.
Dinner Saturday evening for everyone will be a restaurant yet to be determined.
Sunday morning you will have the option to either depart early for home or you may choose to delay your departure to fish with a local fishing guide. Wally and I have fished with these guides and they know where to put us on the fish. If you want to fish with us there is a $50 down payment when you register for the fly-in. The remaining fee plus tip will depend on how many opt to fish Sunday. The total will not exceed $200 dollars per person.
Mark your calendars and keep these dates open, 18-20 September. If you need an alternate IFR airport, North Texas Regional (KGYI) is 6 miles south of 33TE and a short drive to pick you up. Wally and Rhonda are working hard to make this a memorable event for our Club members, come join us!
Blue skies,
Rusty
